Earth Day is Friday, April 22nd, and it's a special one this year because the moon will be full. This gives us opportunity for pause. What is our celestial sister illuminating for us in our inner world? What are our feelings about what seems to be happening on the planet? There is a lot of choice in this matter. We can be creators of thought or we can be followers. And if we're following, who do we choose to follow?
What would happen if we stopped reading the papers and started listening to the wind? A lot of people would be sleeping better at night. And what would be lost? What is lost when we see the Earth not as fragile and damaged but as powerful, wise, and ever-changing?
The planet is going through changes and so are we. It's hard for us little humans to see the big picture. I try my best not to get caught up in the minutiae of my daily life so that I can stay focused on what's important, but it takes a lot of practice, and I get lost constantly. And then I wake up. It's a cycle. Fall asleep, wake up. What I wake up to is the fact that all is well in all aspects.
What if all really is well?
What if there's a Rightness to what is happening on our planet? What if there was an intelligence to Mother Nature? What if she were aware of us, and falling in love with us all over the place when we adore her work, when we absorb her beauty, when we leave behind the clamouring headlines of disaster and imminent disaster until all we can hear is the whisper of the wind in the pines? We don't need to heal the Earth, but we can let her heal us.
If Mother Nature is a wild horse, I won't pretend to know where she's headed, or try and get her under control. If Mother Nature is a wild horse, let me throw myself onto her bare back, if she'll let me, and go for the ride.
Happy Earth Day to everyone. May we all revel in the magical unfolding of spring, as we allow ourselves to unfurl also... and allow ourselves to breathe... and awaken... and stretch out our limbs to the Sun.
